LCD panels that can be used to view 3D images just with naked eyed have been a rarity to say the least. NEC LCD Technologies Ltd has announced the development of 12.1-inch amorphous Si TFT LCD, which has a resolution of 800 x 600. This could be used in a variety of settings like gaming, movies, industrial CAD, medical imaging etc.
The applications are so varied that it created a quite a buzz at the CEATEC JAPAN 2008. The company uses the HDDP method in which RGB sub-pixels are arranged in horizontal stripes and pixels are divided in to two for both the eyes. Since the 2D and 3D images are displayed at almost the same resolution, one could simultaneously enjoy watching 2D and 3D images.

Here is the latest from the world of 3D. Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) and Victor Company of Japan Ltd have developed a 72″ 3D display, which could be viewed with naked eye.
Multiple projectors project image on the screen from the back and enable 3D representation. What is amazing is that each projector provides a pixel count of 100 million or more. Thanks to the optical system, alignment of the projectors and the ways of light, the resulting image is a realistic and believable one and looks almost life like. They are planning to develop a 200 to 300 3D display, which can be viewed with the naked eyes.
