11 Renesas Launches Mobile Phone Application Processor

Mobile phones may now be able to process the 1920 x 1080 (1080p) resolution 30fps full HDTV video, which was earlier not possible due to various reasons. Renesas Technology Corp has unveiled an application processor, which would allow the mobile phones to do what was not possible earlier.

The processor’s CPU core comes loaded with a 500MHz frequency and would support many file formats like MPEG. The chip uses 65nm CMOS technology and consumes about 342mW. Looks like we will see some major change in the way mobile phones work.

It is interesting to not that several other mobile companies and hardware companies have been racing to find a processor that would enable cellphones to process advanced video. This could mean that Renesas Technology Corp will hold rights to any hardware that it would launch in this regard in the near future.
