NEC Launches 12.1 Amorphous Si TFT LCD

LCD panels that can be used to view 3D images just with naked eyed have been a rarity to say the least. NEC LCD Technologies Ltd has announced the development of 12.1-inch amorphous Si TFT LCD, which has a resolution of 800 x 600. This could be used in a variety of settings like gaming, movies, industrial CAD, medical imaging etc.

The applications are so varied that it created a quite a buzz at the CEATEC JAPAN 2008. The company uses the HDDP method in which RGB sub-pixels are arranged in horizontal stripes and pixels are divided in to two for both the eyes. Since the 2D and 3D images are displayed at almost the same resolution, one could simultaneously enjoy watching 2D and 3D images.

This technology and development may help future LCDs and also, if it becomes commercially available, it would mean that a lot of industries and areas can make use of the 12,1-inch amorphous Si TFT LCD.
