We hear about all the wondrous printers that could scan, send fax, photocopy and even print photographs! However, none could do the job that ZUSE could do. ZUSE is a dot matrix-inspired printer that burns images and text with 12 x 12 resolution, line by line. However, there is a difference, it doesn’t print on paper but on bread! The printer has an optical sensor that detects bread and thanks to a digitalization process, it burns the images and text on slices of bread. If that doesn’t satisfy you, there is another printer, which prints on to your latte, and you don’t need to learn the art of making designs on the froth that settles at the brim of your cup.

This printer uses a Phillips 8155 x-y flatbed plotter and shoots edible ink on the frothy surface of any latte. You could build your own cool printer, which could do so, and all that you may need is a plotter, GPIB interface card, 12V relay and edible ink. If that sounds easy, grab a book on programming and a book on Inkjet Applications before you set forth to build a cool printer.
